SO THE NEW MEGA EVOLUTIONS.

hi. SO MANY THINGS ARE HAPPENING. what the hell is a smearguru?? what the hell is a mosslax???? what the hell is a peakychu??????????????? and also there's new mega evolutions??????????????? it's a wonderfully confusing time to be a pokemon fan.

okay let me focus on the megas for now. first of all there are So Many of them. and only four and dlc exclusive? wow. okay. thanks pokemon inc. so i'm going to give my thoughts on all of them individually. some of them are pretty cool!!!! some of them are a little bit lame!!!! some of them have yet to be introduced hopefully. cough cough hack where is mega flygon please. anyways thanks to bulbagarden for the sweet pngs. no i am not hotlinking from them.

starting with the starters.

there are six of them! why are there six of them?? i mean i guess i'm not complaining. and there's probably lore reasons as to why feraligatr emboar and meganium are in legends za, similar to the reasons of legends arceus. over all these were pretty freaking solid designs. a strong start!!

MEGA GRENINJA

oh hi greninja. okay. hello. you're upside down now aren't you. greninja is re-entering its main character phase now that megas are back. pokemon did a pretty good job with this one i think.. however i feel they could've leaned heavier one way or another? the design is a little awkward because they're trying to make it both a) cool edgy appealing and such to 9-year-olds and b) interesting and different to older fans. i mean yeah it's upside down and standing on a shuriken waow cool. and i like its new head spikes and 3d spikes. but they could've distinguished it from original greninja (and ash greninja) with some cool outstanding prop/design element. which is what they were trying to do with the shuriken i guess. but that's all there is. if you took away the shuriken it would look like a normal greninja almost! but it's a pretty okay design. ^_^

MEGA DELPHOX

wow okay so on the Other Hand! delphox got a bit of a freaking upgrade. delphox went camping and came back with burnt fur and three flaming marshmallows on sticks. so yeah! this is a really nice mega evolution, it's doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing! i wasn't a huge fan of delphox before to be honest, but this new design looks really good. i guuuueeeeess they could've gone a bit heavier with its secondary psychic type? that's what i think they were trying to with the sticks but. i think the sticks take away from the design a little bit? honestly they're a little weird. the design would look better without 'em and maybe with some wispy purpley tufts of fur instead?

MEGA CHESNAUGHT

okay hi diva. i like mega chesnaught a Lot more than i like regular chesnaught. they gave it a scrappier look: a long beard-thing, a raggedy red cape, darker greens and reds, spikier spikes! it looks really good!!! with the whole rpg (rogue, mage, warrior) concept kalos's starters has going on, chesnaught's mega evolution definitely did the best job of continuing with the concept. sure, mega greninja and mega delphox look like more powerful, experienced versions of their original forms, but this and more is true in mega chesnaught's design. it looks like an old weathered warrior. it was designed intentionally, and it freaking paid off!! i'm not a fan of normal chesnaught at all really, but i love mega chesnaught. in my opinion it's the strongest mega evolution out of the kalos starters.

MEGA FERALIGATR

hmmmmmmmmm. okay. this guy. this guy's a little weird. its dorsal fin (ii think?) is cool and all but it's almost as if they just said: "okay guys let's make a mega for feraligatr, what should its gimmick be??? ...um well mega mawile had a big chompy thing.. let's do that again because feraligatr is an aligator!!!" and so they slapped on its dorsal fin chomper thing. i think the gimmick is that it comes down as a second jaw hoodie-thing that looks like totodile. eh. whatever. could've been cooler imho. similar to greninja, without its fin it would look too similar to its original design-- i've seen a fakemon mega for feraligatr that had some cool black scales. some more detail to the body or a different color palette or even body type would really help elevate this design from mediocre to somewhat decent!! overall not a huge fan. :|

MEGA EMBOAR

eh whatever. this design is nice and all. i like how the stripes have multiple bands of colors now, and the firey bits are nice. the scepter's a little odd. but honestly i couldn't care less about it. bleh. next.

MEGA MEGANIUM

okay yay!! i like mega meganium a lot. :3 um yeah it looks nice! i like its loop-de-loopy stigma/antennae and i like its ruffled sleeves. and also i like its fluffy petal mane :3 !! original meganium was pretty simple for a final starter evolution, and mega meganium is a little simple too. i think a stripe or some patterns/markings along its back would really make it a great design. but i like mega meganium a lot. it's a good day to be a meganium fan.

and then the rest of them!

don't feel like writing for all of them, so here's my thoughts on the ones that i've thought about.
